The media and mediums we grew up with continue to evolve and as they do, Louisiana is poised to capture and produce that content.

During Covid-19, the film and television industry implemented some of the safest work protocols of any industry across the country. Our safety protocols allowed our industry to return to work quickly and responsibly, putting Louisianians to work and providing small businesses across the state with needed revenue. It’s a Louisiana rebound we are proud to play a critical part in.

We Have a Ghost

After Hurricane Ida, the crew of We Have a Ghost needed supplies fast and the closest hardware store was the Ace in Donaldsonville.

“It was good and beneficial for both parties. I was here for them and the revenue was helpful for us. It helps out the local community and the state to have the movies here. I support the film industry overall.”

Horror icon M. Night Shyamalan produced the recent feature Vanishings at Caddo Lake, starring Dylan O’Brian and Eliza Scanlan. The movie follows an 8-year old girl’s mysterious disappearance at the picturesque local camping and canoeing hotspot.

The Shreveport and Bossier area has been the home for countless features and several iconic TV series like True Blood and Salem.

The film industry has had a huge and positive direct and indirect economic impact in the Shreveport-Bossier area for the past 16 years. We hope it will continue for years to come.

Hilton Hotel, Shreveport

“Typically for hotels, the average guest stay for a convention or corporate event is 2-3 days. The film industry’s average stay is typically 14-30 days. It helps hoteliers to have a good, solid base business that not only benefits our hotel, but also restaurants and attractions in our community.

Our small coffee shop has reaped major benefits from visiting film casts & crews. As you can see in the photo, we have a wall dedicated to commemorating our celebrity guests over the years. It is truly a great source of pride for us.”

“My house had just burnt down, and my neighbor allowed my son and I to stay in half of her rental property. Little did I know, the cast of Factory Girl was staying in the other half. They heard about our situation, and knocked on the door to invite us downstairs, where the cast was making red beans & rice. Before I knew it, I became a one-man-band for accommodating casts/crews. Although I mainly provide housing, I offer services from childcare to transportation and beyond. Just when I thought everything had burnt to the ground, God came knocking on the door.”

Location Spotlight: New Sarpy Swamp

“We have had well over 100 projects come through the swamp. I’m a retired Colonel for the Sheriff’s office and I restore antique cars. The film industry has helped me put both my kids through good colleges without taking on any debt, which I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. I employ anywhere from 10 to 25 older local guys from LaPlace and Norco, retired police and firemen, through my company to help with excavation, parking cars, airboats, snake wrangling, tree trimming… anything the film companies need. These guys make 30-40K per year! We all patronize the local restaurants and they love it when they see us coming, especially with the film folks in tow. It helps everybody!”

“We had Queen Sugar here for about 7 years and they paid from $120,000 to $180,000 per year for our cottage in the back. I’ll tell ya, those movies don’t just appear!

They have 20-25 big trucks, all using Louisiana oil and gas. I’ve seen days of at least 150 people employed on these productions. Some of them might be from out of town, but for the months they’re here, they support the local economy. Even during prep and wrap, they will be here, eating and shopping at local spots.

There are tremendous benefits the state gets from the film industry, much more than most realize. It brings a lot of activity to the area and helps support my staff and the upkeep of these vital historic properties.“

“[Emancipation] hadn’t started filming yet when Ida hit. The storm left a giant mess, so they brought in a big crew and helped to clean up the whole property. They saved me. They were very, very helpful. One of their sets was an antique barn, this very old barn on the property. It was damaged during the hurricane, and they put it back together.

As big as Apple is, they managed to do some great things. They were genuinely helpful to the community and tried to do more, but it was very difficult. For instance, our plantation helped locals cook meals for people boarded in their homes. Apple wanted to donate, but it wasn’t an established organization, so they weren’t able to contribute to the efforts financially. They ended up bringing their truck around for people to wash their clothes and stuff. It was really cool to see. Those are the kinds of things that stick out to me. It’s genuinely good people that are coming here.”
